Cow Shed
Booth.

One physical demonstration. Multiple layers of information.

This 3D recreation is based on a cow-shed demonstration booth presented at Hannover Messe 2025. The setup shows how occupancy sensing, drive-based control, operator visualization and fan actuation work together to maintain a comfortable environment for Daisy inside the shed.

Full Booth

One system.
One environment.

The booth brings the complete system together in one environment: Daisy and the cow shed, infrared occupancy sensing, the HMI, ATV drives and the fan array. Each layer contributes to an autonomous ventilation concept designed around animal comfort and system resilience.

Physical Process

Start with the
physical world.

Daisy’s comfort depends on maintaining suitable conditions inside the shed. Ventilation is adjusted according to actual occupancy, allowing the system to respond to where occupants are located rather than running every fan at the same level continuously.

Sensing

Conditions become
data.

The infrared sensor detects both the number and location of occupants inside the shed. This occupancy information is used to determine where ventilation is required and provides the input for the fan-control logic.

HMI

System state
made visible.

The HMI provides a clear view of the system state, including occupancy information, fan operation and the current behavior of the ventilation system. It gives operators visibility into how the distributed control logic is responding in real time.

Automation

From information
to control.

Control is implemented directly within the ATV drives using EcoStruxure Automation Expert, without a separate central controller. The drives use the occupancy information to coordinate fan operation and distribute the control logic across the system.

Actuation

Control becomes
physical response.

The fan array provides ventilation according to the detected occupancy and location within the shed. A redundancy strategy is also built into the system: if the control loop is interrupted, all fans automatically run at maximum speed to maintain cooling and protect the shed environment.
